The “SIMMONDS” originated in 1908 from a Pollock seed in Washington D.C. In 1913, the United States Department of Agriculture sent it to Miami, where it flourished and bore fruit for the first time. It was named after Edward Simmonds, who was behind the USDA's Plant Introduction program.

It is a popular choice for home gardeners because of its size, yield, and attractive appearance. It has glossy leaves and a neat shape, reaching 20–25 ft tall and 10–15 ft wide.

The fruits have a large, pear-shaped fruit with smooth, green skin that's easy to peel. The flesh is creamy and yellow, with a rich, smooth, buttery, nutty flavor. The fruit weighs around 16–30 oz and ripens from July to September.

These trees can handle temps as low as 35 degrees Fahrenheit and are a “TYPE A” avocado.🥑
